The Bee Keeper

Several months ago we saw a presentation about bee keeping. Ever since then Kristana has been fascinated with bees and wants to be a bee keeper. We are taking classes over the next year then in February she will be applying for a scholarship to get her own hive and the necessary equipment. Today she got the opportunity to go and help fill new hives with bees. I thought this would be a perfect way to see if she really could do this or if she would get too scared. She was amazing, and didn't even look a bit nervous. She had to place the queen, shake down the bees, fill the hive, and place the frames. About 7,000 bees were placed in each hive!

Those bees you see on top are just a small amount of the bees, most are down low under the frames.

These are pictures of where we went to help with the bees. The pictures do not do it justice. It is so beautiful. It is 10 minutes from our house.

Hopefully she does not develop allergies to bees over the next few years like her uncle Wes has... he has to carry an epi pen now. We had a scary incident about a year or so ago... the dr. said he could go into shock and die in about 30 sec the next sting....yikes!!! He hates bees now!
